Today Tonight clip
Last week I had a few moments of TV glory talking about 2012 on Channel 7′s Today Tonight. You can check it out here:
Clearly, the spin was towards the sensational, but the reporter did a pretty good job in allowing me to conclude with some balance, noting that some people are trying to use 2012 as a catalyst for change in their lives.

holey toledo batman…..you’re a pom !
didn’t expect the accent…but i won’t hold it against ya. because of yer well said snippets around the 2012 hysteria dr.gelfer…hope we see more or your balanced perspective in the debate and lead up to the big day…daze…
when world consciousness reaches enough mass….and “we create a new earth” (stay with me..)…i trust you and your kind will also be traveling to new dimensions ? ..howz that for a cosmic take on 2012…

Ah yes, the accent always puts a new spin on things: even I don’t recognize me.
I shall happily travel to new dimensions if they are revealed to me.

Hi Joseph,
Anyhow it is inevitable, I knew nothing will happen on Y2K and saw even close friends (that I respect) “take advantage” of it to mesmerize audiences. No one stood up then to confront them with: “So… what happen with your predictions…” People in general have short memories or they see confrontation as a difficult art. (to put it politely)
I live in Colombia South America. I love to see a voice of sanity around 2012 and the big marketing opportunity it creates ― although you are also selling a book on it…
Anyhow I will love to read your book and will like if you publish an online version or a Kindle version since getting book in paper to Colombia is not only difficult but expensive and since I am clear that nothing will happen at the catastrophic level I am more interested on the cultural catalytic impact this is going to have and from what I have been reading in your blog, you are good at it.

Thanks Jose: you’re absolutely correct: the cultural impact is the interesting bit. Not sure about the Kindle version: I’ll look into it.
BTW, hardly anyone buys these academic books, so I don’t think my level of cashing-in will be that high

Well so make the more common version, what is wrong with cashing in in the end… I prefer the money in the hands of more evolved and caring people.
SO go for it.
I will even look into translating it

Well I *am* doing the common version of my masculinity work here:

I’m currently giving it away online, a a print version will be available next year.
That could do with a Spanish translation!

Well, what a relief. I’d planned to live well past the day after my 60th birthday!
As for you you’re looking good and sounding like the voice of reason!

There are two groups of people who will lose out once 2012 is over:
• 2012 gurus
• People, like me, who comment on 2012 gurus
In 2013, I’m sure all the same people will move on in the same groups and debate something else.

Hi Joe, very nice to see your doing so well. Great interview, it did make me giggle only in Australia could they get away with calling people religious nuts and wackos on the news. Cant see that happening in the UK.
